220 Homes For Rent To Be Built In Headingley Near Leeds
A new neighbourhood of 223 homes will be built in Leeds by the developer Casa by Moda. Insider Media reports that the 5.9 acre site will be known as Abbey Court and is located between Kirkstall and Headingley, about a 15 minute drive from the city centre.
The homes will be designed specifically for rental, and will cater for families, be pet-friendly, and will have air-source heat pumps. The development is part of a wider trend for build-to-rent homes (BTR), as demand from tenants for high quality rental homes grows and there is currently a significant undersupply of available properties in the UK.
Matt Townson, director of development and projects at Harrogate-based Casa by Moda, said: “We’re entering an exciting phase with the delivery of our first neighbourhoods, and as a business headquartered in Yorkshire, Casa, Abbey Court is special for us, as it marks our first neighbourhood that will open in our home region.”
He added: “With demand for rental accommodation remaining high, our approach as a long-term owner and operator is to create not only high quality, sustainable homes, but new communities that go beyond bricks and mortar by actively supporting the wellbeing of our residents.”

The government has recently pledged to fulfil its promise to build one million homes in the UK during this Parliament. In a speech by the Housing and Levelling Up Secretary, Michael Gove, a series of new measures were announced to boost the number of new homes being created on brownfield sites, and to ‘unblock the planning system.’
The Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said: “I can confirm that we will meet our manifesto commitment to build 1 million homes over this Parliament. That’s a beautiful new home for a million individual families in every corner of our country. We need to keep going because we want more people to realise the dream of owning their own home.”
He added: “We won’t do that by concreting over the countryside – our plan is to build the right homes where there is the most need and where there is local support, in the heart of Britain’s great cities.”
“Our reforms today will help make that a reality, by regenerating disused brownfield land, streamlining planning process and helping homeowners to renovate and extend their houses outwards and upwards.”
As well as making changes to the planning system, there are plans to cut the red tape around rules and regulations on converting and extending existing properties. This will make it easier for homeowners to adapt their homes for growing families, by building upwards or having a loft conversion.
It will also become easier to adapt empty town centre retail units and takeaways into homes.
