£28m Supersize Warehouse To Be Built At Port Of Liverpool
A new warehouse the length of five football pitches is set to be built at the Port of Liverpool, for the purpose of handling and storing cargo. Insider Media reports that the £28m facility at Alexandra Dock will have a capacity of 240,000 sq ft and will include 300 metres of quayside cranes to assist with loading and unloading cargo from vessels.
The Port of Liverpool is operated by the Peel Ports Group, and has two container terminals, the Royal Seaforth and Liverpool2, which is a deep water container terminal that has seen significant upgrading and investment in recent years. The new warehousing facility is expected to be in operation by April 2024.
David Huck, chief operating officer at Peel Ports Group, said: “We’re very pleased to be announcing the construction for this major purpose-built space at the Port of Liverpool.”
He added: “We’ve seen a significant increase in demand for warehousing, and this huge new facility provides an opportunity for new customers looking for capacity to grow their business, as well as allowing existing customers the chance to expand their operational capacity at the port.”

Meanwhile, Runcorn is set to benefit from a new £1.8m health and education hub. Insider Media reports that Halton Borough Council have been awarded the funding to refurbish the existing library from the government’s Towns Fund.
Adrian Fillingham, chair of the Runcorn Town Deal Board, said: “Having this facility at the heart of the town centre will make it much easier for local people to get the information, services and support they need to stay active and healthy.
“This is a really exciting and innovative scheme, which alongside the other Reconnecting Runcorn projects will make a real difference to people’s lives and drive the transformation of Runcorn town centre in the years to come.”
The architects Cassidy + Ashton have been appointed to redesign the facility on Granville Street. The space will include community based clinics as well as dedicated training and education rooms that will be used by the local colleges and NHS trust.
