Green Light For Major Commercial Development In Congleton
The Cheshire East town of Congleton is set for an extensive mixed-use development after the council granted planning permission. Insider Media reports that Clowes Developments purchased the former Viking Park site in 2021 and will now go ahead with the plans for a mixed commercial, residential and office development.
The architects for the scheme are Whittham Cox, and the designs will meet with the highest standards of construction sustainability and energy efficiency. The contractors are TanRo, who have successfully completed several projects for Clowes Developments in the past.
Marc Freeman, director and developer at Clowes Developments, said: “I am delighted to start work on this significant mixed-use development. This is the first large scale development to be delivered in Congleton in several years.
“We are pleased to be bringing employment opportunities to the area which will complement the growing town. Congleton’s expansion has been enabled by the new link road to the M6 motorway providing much needed connectivity.”

The scheme will deliver a super-sized warehouse, a supermarket, 175 new houses, and office space. The town is conveniently located 21 miles south of Manchester and 13 miles north of Stoke on Trent, with easy access to the M6 and good rail links.
