Listed Leeds Building To Be Redeveloped For Student Digs
The Grade II-listed Springfield House in Leeds will be redeveloped into student accommodation if planning permission is granted. Insider Media reports that McLaren Property have submitted an application to Leeds City Council for the conversion of the existing building plus further purpose-built developments.
The plans, if approved, will deliver 332 student bedrooms and also a gym, wellness area, games room, study spaces, a landscaped courtyard, and amenity and support services. It will also be targeted for BREEAM Excellent ratings and Energy Performance Certificate A. The listed building will be preserved as the main entrance to the accommodation.
Tom Gilman, McLaren Property’s regional managing director, said: “It’s fantastic to be able to refurbish Springfield House and bring it back to life. The Grade II building is central to our plans and at the heart of this new and exciting student district, which is in a great location adjacent to the university campus.”

Elsewhere, work is ongoing towards a £100m investment in terminal facilities at Leeds Bradford Airport. Dudleys Consulting Engineers have been appointed to advise on structural and civil engineering matters. The plans include a 102,000 sq ft extension to the east of the existing terminal that will be three storeys high.

The existing building will undergo a refurbishment to improve customer satisfaction and the quality of the passenger experience. There will be improvements to seating, security, and baggage reclaim, as well as the addition of new shops and food outlets. The departure lounge will also be extended.
The work will be carried out using sustainable methods of construction and the improvements are expected to boost the economic growth of the airport.
