New Tesco Supermarket Development Set For North Harrogate
The plans for a new Tesco store to the north of Harrogate in Yorkshire are set to be approved, Insider Media reports. The earmarked brownfield land was formerly the site of the North East Gas offices. The proposals include plans for a filling station and a new roundabout with widened road access.
The planning proposals are set to be approved by Harrogate Borough Council despite 57 objections. These relate to the impact on the environment and drainage in the area, increased traffic, and also the impact on the Jennyfield Local Centre.
The planning officer’s report said: “The development is acceptable in principle and meets the requirements of the sequential and retail impact tests with appropriate mitigation. The design and landscaping of the buildings are appropriate for this site and impacts with regards to the residential amenity, environmental impact and highways are acceptable.”
“The development will create jobs and provide social, environmental and economic benefits to the local area.” It is estimated that the new store will employ 100 people.
Meanwhile, a new distribution depot for drinks wholesaler LWC Drinks has opened in Doncaster. Insider Media reports that the £7m new depot has created 300 new jobs in just one year. The depot is equipped with the latest logistics technology to improve the operating procedures and accuracy of the distribution facility.
Ebrahim Mukadam, managing director at LWC Drinks, said: “2022 was a record-breaking year for LWC. We’re fortunate enough to see a growth in turnover over the last year and identified a need to increase our storage capacity to meet customer demands and drive efficiencies through the business and for our customers.”
He added: “In fact, we have added 350,000 sq ft distribution space over the last year alone. Opening this new depot in Doncaster marks another crucial step forward in our growth plans. Expanding our national footprint is imperative in the future of our business, so we can continue to support our partners where they need us the most.”
“By actively securing more warehousing space and creating new, quality jobs in the process, we’re working hard to invest in the future.”
Finally, York is set to get its first Hard Rock Café after property developers North Star submitted plans to the City of York Council to convert a listed building on Coney Street.
A design and access statement submitted in support of the applications said: “This development of a Hard Rock Café and aparthotel would serve to enhance and revitalise this prominent listed building in York’s historic city centre.
“The proposal ensures the preservation of the unique landmark façade on Coney Street and replaces a detracting façade with a contemporary design which enhances the existing streetscape while being sensitive to context.
“This proposal will create new job opportunities and provide a vibrant and energetic destination to support the high street’s continuing development. The two anchor tenants are dedicated to providing high-quality service to their customers, and are truly committed to York as a key destination for their businesses.”
An aparthotel would be created on the upper floors of the building, which was recently vacated by TK Maxx.
