Plans to regenerate Shrewsbury town centre have taken another step forward after a public consultation was launched. BBC News reports that the public is being consulted on the second and third development phase, and the process will run until 5 March. The Smithfield Riverside regeneration scheme is part of a masterplan to transform the town centre.
Progress on the flagship Wirral Waters development has stepped up a gear after approval for grant funding was given at a meeting of Wirral Council economy regeneration and housing committee. Insider Media reports that the £4m retail, leisure and events centre is a joint venture between Wirral Council and the Starship Group.
Work has begun at the former Typhoo Tea factory in Birmingham to create new purpose-built broadcast studios for the BBC. Insider Media reports that the developers plan to retain the shell of the historic building, while the interior will provide the West Midlands with state of the art broadcasting facilities, to be known as the Tea Factory.
Manchester City Council has asked for feedback on proposals for a Culture Hub in Wythenshawe. The plans centre on the vacant Cop-Op store and will see the redevelopment of the Civic Centre. The Hub would provide creative spaces for artists, community groups, and local creative businesses.
The town of Stalybridge in Tameside, Greater Manchester, has been awarded almost £20m from the government’s levelling up fund. BBC News reports that ambitious regeneration plans for the town centre will now go ahead after the external funding was awarded by the UK Capital Regeneration Projects scheme.
